# Melancholy
"Take note of the things that you enjoy you when you're feeling OK, put them in a list, and go through that list when you're feeling down".

"If you feel you're at the beginnings of an episode, hit it with everything you have, don't let it spiral down" (Prague Old Wastewater treatment plant)
== Pay yourself some extra attention ==
* IF you find yourself in a bit of a slump, pay yourself a bit of extra attention. '''Get a haircut, buy some new clothes'''. Just that can really help give your confidence a needed boost. ** Todo: add ideas
** Wash clothes
** '''Take a nice long bath'''
* '''CLEAN'''. Clean your car, clean your room, throw away old unused anythings, clean the walls, wash the rugs, clean the fridge, clean the stove, literally clean until YOU feel dirty then clean yourself. Its magic.
** Sometimes deadline pressure brings a good idea.
** Ten-second tidy
** Put everything on the table, then organize it all from there.

* Брать плащ-палатку для сидения у костра,  а то каремат легко сжечь, пролить сгущенку и прочее,  а на нем потом спать, а плащ-палатку не так жалко. Или просто карепоп;
* Налобный фонарик НАМНОГО удобнее обычного;
* Ставить палатки далеко друг от друга и от костра;

* Если не двигаться,  то делать особо нечего, кроме готовки еды и плавания, и поэтому обязательно надо брать с собой игры,  мяч,  бадминтон и прочее;
* Хотя бы пару дождевиков на команду;
* Палатка на двоих+один - это палатка на двоих с комфортом.  Третий там влезает уже с неудобствами.  Учитывать при поселении;
* Брать несколько видов чая;
* Если планируется плохая погода,  то ставить палатки около деревьев,  к которым можно привязать дополнительные крепления;
* Узнать телефон больницы и скорой помощи в том районе;
* Продумать все варианты выезда с данной местности.

# PotentiallyInteresting

Here I will put longer things I should read about, just to remember that they exist.

=== Word vectors ===

Algorithms, languages, translation, everything that I loved.

=== RAW ===
http://www.rawilson.com/
 American author, novelist, essayist, editor, playwright, poet, futurist, and self-described agnostic mystic. Recognized as an Episkopos, Pope, and saint of Discordianism,

 an American novelist, essayist, absurdist philosopher, futurist, and '''guerilla ontologist''', most famous for his satirical work

Looks like an extremely interesting personality. For reading, I'd start with:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Illuminatus!_Trilogy
 The trilogy is a satirical, postmodern, science fiction-influenced adventure story; a drug-, sex-, and magic-laden trek through a number of conspiracy theories, both historical and imaginary, related to the authors' version of the Illuminati. The narrative often switches between third- and first-person perspectives in a nonlinear narrative. It is thematically dense, covering topics like counterculture, numerology, and Discordianism.

Additionally: http://www.rawilson.com/quantum.html it appears he had sth to do with '''E-prime'''

 1. Have the group experiment with rewriting the following Standard English sentences into English Prime. Observe carefully what disagreements or irratibility may arise.
 • "The fetus is a person."
 • "The zygote is a person."
 • "Every sperm is sacred/Every sperm is great/If a sperm is wasted/God gets quite irate." (M. Python)
 • "Pornography is murder." (A. Dworkin)
 • "John is homosexual."
 • "The table is four feet long."
 • "The human brain is a computer."
 • "When I took LSD, the whole universe was transformed."
 • "Beethoven was paranoid, Mozart was manic-depressive, and Wagner was megalomaniac."
 • "Today is Tuesday."
 • "Lady Chatterly's Lover is a sexist novel."
 • "Mice, voles and rabbits are all rodents."
 • "The patient is resisting therapy."
 • "Sin and redemption are theological fictions. The sense of sin and the sense of redemption are actual human experiences." (paraphrased from Ludwig Wittgenstein.)

=== General Semantics & NLP et similia ===
==== General Semantics ====
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_semantics
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Korzybski

http://www.generalsemantics.org/the-general-semantics-learning-center/overview-of-general-semantics/basic-understandings/
 Specifically, Korzybski’s general semantics was a '''significant influence in''':
 Dr. Albert Ellis’s Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach to psychotherapy;
 Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) as first written about by Richard Bandler and John Grinder;
 Speech and Language education through educators such as S.I. Hayakawa (San Francisco State), Wendell Johnson (U. of Iowa), Irving J. Lee (Northwestern), Elwood Murray (Denver U.), and dozens of their successors;

==== NLP ====
Apparently it's much deeper and encompassing than I thought.
https://www.purenlp.com/faq
 Collapsing Anchors, Visual Squash, 6-step Reframing, V/K dissociation, Change Personal History, Belief Change, Reimprint (all which are sometimes called NLP), are some of the techniques that were derived from applying the models. All these models and techniques can be used in many areas or professions.

==== Book of Daleth ====
https://www.bookofdaleth.com/index.html
I'm not even sure what I'm looking at, but it's linked from RAW's website and might be interesting. Reminiscent of Discordianism

# Formulating Knowledge

== 20 Ways of Formulating Knowledge ==
Source: https://www.supermemo.com/en/articles/20rules

=== 1. Do not learn what you don't understand. ===
Understand as much as the material before learning, interact with it.

=== 2. Learn before you memorize ===
Do not start from learning loosely related facts, try to get a background that links them together.

=== 3. Build upon the basics ===
-- Build upon simpler models, which are easy to learn and comprehend.
-- Basics are usually simple to learn and retain, don't neglect them.

=== 4. Minimum Information Principle ===
* The material must be formulated as simply as possible.
 * Simple material is easy to remember -- simple -> few possible variants to travel a path -> synaptic path forms itself better
* Repetitions of simple items are easier.
 * Item of two subitems is suboptimal.

*BAD*:
> What are the characteristics of the Dead Sea?
> Salt lake located on the border between Israel and Jordan. Its shoreline is the lowest point on the Earth's surface, averaging 396 m below sea level. It is 74 km long. It is seven times as salty (30% by volume) as the ocean. Its density keeps swimmers afloat. Only simple organisms can live in its saline waters

*GOOD*:
> Q: Where is the Dead Sea located?
> A: on the border between Israel and Jordan
> Q: What is the lowest point on the Earth's surface?
> A: The Dead Sea shoreline

Except for times when you need to actually recite it -- remembering what you remember.

=== 5. Masking parts of sentences: ===
> Q: Kaleida was funded to the tune of $40 million by ...(companies) in 1991

=== 6. Use imagery ===

  - The visual cortex is well-developed in humans
  - Verbal processing greatly inferior to visual processing power
  - Mind maps
  -
=== 7. Use mnemonic techniques ===
  - Amazingly effective

=== 8. Avoid sets ===
  - A set is a collection of objjects.
  - *BAD*: What countries belong to the EU?
  - If they are necessary, convert them to *enumerations* (make them ordered -- and listed always in the same order) or **grouping**
  - Listing members in varying order at each repetition has a disastrous effect on memory

=== 9. But avoid enumerations too ===
  - Not as bad as sets but still bad
  - It's better to use masking when they're unavoidable:
  - *GOOD*:
    - What three letters does the alphabet begin with?
    - Fill in: A ... ... ... D E
    - Fill in : B C ... ... F G
  - Here we use OVERLAPPING masking, memorizing the order is helped by the other questions.

A poem split into multiple items:
> Q: The credit belongs ... (Teddy Roosevelt)
> A: to the man who's actually in the arena
>Q: The credit belongs to the man who's actually in the arena ...
>A: whose face is marred by dust and sweat (a man who knows the great >enthusiasm)

>Q: whose face is marred by dust and sweat ... (The credit belongs)
>A: a man who knows the great enthusiasm and the great devotions (who >spends himself in a worthy cause)

>Q: a man who knows the great enthusiasm and the great devotions ... (The >credit belongs)
>A: who spends himself in a worthy cause (who in the end knows the >triumph of high achievement)

>Q: who spends himself in a worthy cause ... (The credit belongs)
>A: who in the end knows the triumph of high achievement (so that his place shall never be), etc. etc.

=== 11. Combat interference ===
  - Similar words/concepts are bad for memory
  - *Interference* is when knowledge of one item makes it harder to remember another item.
  - Detect and eliminate:
    - Make items as unambiguous as possible
    - Minimum information principle

=== 12. Optimize wording ===

*BAD*
> Q: Aldus invented desktop publishing in 1985 with PageMaker. Aldus had >little competition for years, and so failed to improve. Then Denver->based ... blew past. PageMaker, now owned by Adobe, remains No. 2
>A: Quark

*GOOD*:
>Q: PageMaker lost ground to ...
>A: Quark

(Here the other information is inconsequential; if they are important, store them in separate items)

=== 14. Personalize and provide examples ===

> Q: What is the name of a soft bed without arms or back? (like the one at Robert's parents)
> A: divan

=== 15. Rely on emotional states ===
  - Vivid and/or shocking
  - Don't overuse same tools (sonst interference)

=== 16. Context cues simplify wording ===
> "What does GRE stand for in biochemistry?"
> "bioch: GRE"

=== 17. Redundancy doesn't contradict minimum information principle ===
  - Reasoning cues to interact with the material
    - You don't write the answer, but how to get there
    - Derivation steps -- same as above
  - Multiple semantic representation
    - Described from different angles
  - Flexible repetition
    - When more than one possible answer
=== 18. Provide sources ===
  - Where I got the info from
  - Mark it when everything's complicated ("Other sources differ!")
=== 19. Prioritize ===
  - Multiple knowledge sources -- see which one I could/should expand, at the cost of which others
  - Extracting knowledge
    - Learn just what is needed or will be needed
  - Formulating items
    - Optional/explanatory comments in parenthesis, so my attention is focused on the actual information

it might be useful; it might be the opposite; it may be of no consequence whatsoever
looks draw looks
"An insipid letter is in itself suspicious"
do suspicious things after dark or on early mornings, when people are half-asleep and not on the lookout for suspicious dealings
for interviews walk outside -- cemeteries, museums and churches; walk in the countryside
bring reading matter to avoid conversations or break off an embarassing one
easiness and confidence should be learned and practiced; they help us personally and they help produce similar reactions to those we are handling
it often takes more moral courage to ask someone to do something dangerous that to do it yourself, but if this is the proper course of action you must follow it
if you have an agent who is really important to you, try not to let him know this
once people label an agent, the job is half done (about covers). People take things so much for granted and only with difficulty change change their sizing-up of a man once they have it (Also mentioned in "Psychology of intelligence analysis" -- changing a view needs much more information that /directly contradicts/ it than forming a view
when your name creeps up in conversation, the people need to be able to say something about you, different from your real work
never know too much among your other contacts;bite down on your vanity, which would like to show how much you know. Especially hard when you hear a wrong assertion being made
within the limits of your principles, be all things to all men, but don't betray your principles. The strongest force in your show is you.
it's your job to bend the circumstances to your will, not the other way around.

# Memory palaces

=== Reusing a memory palace ===
* Have a "go to" journey, but otherwise have quite a lot of different ones and rotate their use
** From different POVs, for example as your cat might see it
* Interference shouldn't be a problem if the journey is used for wildly different datasets
* To erase, imagine the locations empty
** Or destroy the things with fire, explosions, etc
*** Some people find this reinforces the images themselves and therefore is counterproductive
** Or replace the things with white spheres or sth similar
* Imagine the same location with different "themes", for example in hyperbolized winter/autumn
** "snow-covered lumberjack"

=== General ===
* OK for near-short-term information (speeches etc), for long-term stuff Anki or associations
* After a couple of walks the information should be remembered without the Palace

=== Creating palaces/locis ===
* Create quite a lot of them
** From different POVs, for example as your cat might see it
*** Floor-level, eye level and ceiling-level
** Imagine the same location with different "themes", for example in hyperbolized winter/autumn

=== Remembering exact numbers ===
* Mark every 5th or 10th location
* Use anything, number shape system or Major system
** Put candle at location 10, swan at 20, etc etc etc
* Think this better so it does not interfere with the Major system
* Think of a "Meta" character?
